Offering HOPE and resources to caregivers with
young children diagnosed with
Type 1 Diabetes

Welcome to Super Juice Kids

The diagnoses of T1D is overwhelming. Being dropped into a whole new world is a lot to ask of anyone, especially when your kid is so young. We, at Super Juice Kids, know this and want to help as many caregivers as we can with what we have learned ourselves. We leave the education to the trained educators. We leave the medical advice to the doctors. Our sweet spot is to be there for you when you feel alone and take some of the “overwhelming” tasks to do and make them as efficient and effective as possible so you can spend more time being with your kid. Below we have laid out a pace and list of tools and practical resources that can help you with the of many changes ahead. Most importantly, our hope is to make your little one’s life a bit easier.

who we are…

Hi!

We’re the Sutherlands. We are a family of (almost) 5 and our son was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in September of 2022 at 2.5yr just 10 days after his sister was born. We didn’t know much about the auto immune disease or have any genetic makeup in our family. He was one of the “lucky” ones that chose him. We have been through the ups and downs of the diagnoses since. We know this process is never perfect (no matter how hard we try), and we always have something to learn; however, we’ve also learned that doing it together in like-minded community makes us hopeful and stronger. Simply put, we’re glad you’re here.

Super Juice was born when trying to explain insulin to our son when he was diagnosed at 2.5yr. It was our effort to try and get him on-board and excited for it! In ways, it helped him initially know that he was lucky to get superpowers when he got superjuice, which made the (at times) holding him down to receive it a little more smooth. He ran with it to the point that it opened doors to talk about listening to what our body needs, taking pride in caring for himself, and talking about insulin and other T1D verbiage easier. The name stuck, so we ran with what worked, and here we are!

day 1

Focus on Today

To say you are likely overwhelmed is an understatement. You might be brokenhearted, devastated, or even relieved that you finally found an answer to help your little one. You will have a lot of things thrown your way. Know that you are not in this alone.

week 1

Grace and Space

What an emotional rollercoaster you have been on! The reality of the situation is encompassed by the denials of the situation. It’s OK to feel exactly as you do. It’s not going to go perfectly but that’s OK. You will get through this very difficult phase.

month 1

Learning to Play the Cards You Were Dealt
A lot has already been going on. We’ve been using trial and error to start to figure out what our new routine and rhythm might look like.  By now we need to start to realize that we cannot discard this “card” in life. We need to accept and learn to play the cards in life we have been given, but doing it in a way that we do not fall victim in life.

month 4-6

Gaining Experience with T1D
We are always trying to remain positive in this forever situation, but sometimes it’s just downright frustrating. There is always more we can do. There is always more we can learn. Burnout of this disease is just around the corner if we don’t watch it;  and it’s true, it is. Problem solving actual situations and questions are always on the rise.

year 1

Creating Foundations and Living it Out
After a year, there are some valleys and mountains in your story. There’s a lot there- experience, personal growth, and especially HOPE. Take a moment to celebrate the good- strength, courage, and resilience. Although we will always be learning and gaining experiences, it’s time to draw some foundational lines to help guide our child’s growth in perspective when it comes to living with T1D.
